What’s The Difference Between a EDP & EDT Fragrance?

Perfumes have been used for thousands of years to enhance our natural scent that walk around with each day. To either mask unpleasant odors, or to simply make us feel more attractive. With so many different types of fragrances that’s available for use, it can be quite difficult to understand the difference between each of them.

In this blog post, we will explore the difference between two popular fragrance types:

  • Eau de parfum (EDP)
  • Eau de toilette (EDT).

To begin, both EDP and EDT are forms of perfume, which means they include a combination of essential oils, scent compounds, fixatives, and solvents. The concentration of perfume oils in each is the major distinction between these two types of scents.

What is EDT?

Eau de toilette, often known as EDT, is a scent having a lesser concentration of perfume oils than Eau de parfum. EDT is typically composed of 5% to 15% perfume oils dissolved in alcohol and water. Because of the reduced oil content, EDT is lighter and less strong than EDP, with a lifetime of about 2-3 hours on your skin.

What is EDP?

Eau de parfum, or EDP, is a fragrance with a higher concentration of perfume oils, usually ranging from 15% to 20%. EDP is more concentrated than EDT, and its scent can last up to 6-8 hours on the skin. Due to its higher concentration of oils, EDP is generally more expensive than EDT.

Which One Should You Go With?

When choosing between EDT and EDP, consider your needs and the occasion. If you’re looking for a subtle fragrance for everyday wear, a EDT fragrance is a really good choice to go with. However, if you want a fragrance that lasts all day or night, or you have a super special occasion, then a EDP fragrance is your best friend.

The final thought is the primary difference between Eau de parfum and Eau de toilette is the concentration of perfume oils in each. EDT has a lower concentration of oils and is generally less expensive and lighter in scent. EDP, on the other hand, has a higher concentration of oils, which makes it more potent and longer-lasting, but also be more $$$$. Ultimately, your choice will depend on your preference, budget, and the occasion.

Do you have a favorite EDT or EDP that your must-have scent for any event?
